Hotel Okura Announces Strategic Expansion with Inaugural Domestic Resort Property in Hakone

HAKONE, JAPAN – Hotel Okura Co., Ltd. has formally announced the development of Okura Resort Hakone Gora, marking the company’s first domestic resort establishment. Scheduled to commence operations in 2029, this strategic initiative represents a significant milestone in the organization’s expansion of its luxury hospitality portfolio within the Japanese market.
The development has been commissioned through a partnership agreement executed with Nishimatsu Construction Co., Ltd. in July 2025. The resort location in Hakone Gora has been selected based on the region’s established tourism infrastructure, which accommodates approximately 20 million visitors annually and maintains a distinguished reputation as a premier hot spring destination.
The architectural concept, designated “Forest Hideaway” and conceptualized by renowned designer Gwenael Nicolas, emphasizes integration with the natural topography and mountainous landscape characteristic of the region. The facility will comprise 58 guest accommodations, each equipped with private open-air bathing facilities utilizing authentic Owakudani thermal spring water—a distinguishing feature of the property.
Complementary amenities will include enclosed thermal bathing facilities, wellness saunas, premium teppanyaki culinary establishments, and an exclusive bar lounge. This development reinforces Hotel Okura’s strategic commitment to expanding its presence in Japan’s most prestigious tourism destinations.
