In a move he termed “historic,” US President Donald Trump has revealed an agreement aimed at the complete disarmament of Hamas, marking what he views as a significant stride towards resolving the longstanding conflict in Gaza. This announcement came via his social media channels, yet it remains unconfirmed by both the Israeli government and Hamas.
Trump’s proposed plan entails a gradual dismantling of Hamas’s military capabilities, including the destruction of its tunnel networks and the surrender of heavy weaponry, all under the watchful eye of international supervisors. As part of the deal, Israeli forces would execute a phased withdrawal from Gaza. In their place, an international stabilization force would be established, accompanied by a new Palestinian security administration tasked with maintaining peace and order.
The outlined strategy also demands a complete cessation of military activities prior to the initiation of the disarmament process. Under the guidance of an international verification committee, heavy weapons, tunnels, and military infrastructure would be systematically dismantled. While reports suggest that Hamas has tentatively accepted the framework, the initiation of disarmament is anticipated to begin within 14 days, contingent upon international endorsement and consensus among all involved parties. As of now, Israel has not officially agreed to the proposal.
