In a devastating escalation of the conflict, Russia unleashed a barrage of missiles and drones on Kyiv early Monday, resulting in the deaths of at least nine people and injuries to 46 others, including five children, according to Ukrainian officials. The attack left rescue efforts ongoing as authorities warned that the death toll might climb higher.

The assault caused significant destruction across the Ukrainian capital, with emergency services reporting severe damage to residential areas. At least 15 apartment buildings were either damaged or demolished, notably a nine-story block in Kyiv’s Podilskyi district, where rescue teams were actively working to extricate individuals trapped in the debris.

The Russian Defense Ministry acknowledged the execution of what it termed a “massive” operation, deploying long-range missiles and drones. According to their statement, the targets included military installations, energy infrastructure, and airfields in Kyiv and other regions in Ukraine.

Just days before, another significant Russian attack struck Kyiv, claiming at least 27 lives, marking it as one of the most lethal assaults on the city this year. The recent events have heightened tensions and underscored the ongoing threat to the capital.

Meanwhile, in the Donetsk region, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that fighting is still ongoing near the strategic town of Kostyantynivka. He refuted Russian statements that the town had been captured, emphasizing the continued resistance and defense efforts in the area.
